Time always passes no matter what one does and so it did for Deltiaoth. Time had past since she had decided to reside at Dragonwillow Weyr and Deltiaoth  was starting to feel restless. Sure it was fun to soar through the clouds and pop between here and there but Deltiaoth was lonely.

Everyone at the weyr had been incredibly friendly and helpful and Deltiaoth had enjoyed her time there. Even though Deltiaoth was mute, she was able to enjoy mindspeech with the other dragons and her mind was sharp. But Deltiaoth was shy by nature and often chose not to speak even through mindspeech. She found she could often make her self understood without speech if need be.

This time however, Deltiaoth needed someone to advise her. Surprisingly enough, it was her clutch brother Karamth (while they had different parents, they had hatched at the same hatching) who like her had chosen to go unbonded at their hatching.

The difference between us Karamth explained Is that we chose to go unbonded for different reasons. I chose to follow the tradition of my father and go unbonded and i'm not sure I want to bond ever. You I think chose to go unbonded because there was no one there that day that you particularly wanted to bond with. So now you don't feel complete because you feel you should have bonded."

Deltiaoth looked at Karamth surprised he could be so insightful How do you know so much about bonding? That she was also curious to know.

Kerenya told me Karamth answered smugly

Deltiaoth grinned. Kerenya was another dragon similar in colour that Karamth had developed a crush on. Still what Karamth had said made sense and Deltiaoth brooded on it for the next two tendays. Finally, she made a decision and went to find the weyrwoman and her bondmate to let them know what they had decided.

"Well I am definitely sorry to see you go" Eilin spoke to Deltiaoth through her gold bondmate Quiranth. "Are you sure you don't want to stand here?"

I considered that Deltiaoth told her but I feel at the moment my destiny lies elsewhere. I'm sure I will be back here though. Dragonwillow has begun to feel like a real home.

Eilin nodded sadly but could understand the cream dragon's reasons."Have you any idea where you plan to go?"

A place called Darkling Dawn. Deltiaoth replied Kaareth told me about it. It's not on any world and it's surrounded by forests and it sounds really interesting. Also they accept dragons there as candidates so I think I will go there if they'll have me

"They would be nuts to turn you away" Eilin smiled at the enthusiasm on Deltiaoth's face and so it was decided. Deltiaoth would leave on the next rest day.

Soon the day to leave came and Deltiaoth was ready to go. She had said her goodbyes the night before and as the sun rose into the sky and there was still morning dew in the air. Deltiaoth took her leave rising into the air about 50 feet before popping between.

It was still morning when Deltiaoth arrived at Darkling Dawn. (something not always guaranteed when one was traveling between worlds) and the residents had only just woken up. Already there were dragons out sunning themselves on ledges and few in the weyrbowl. A bronze bugled in greeting obviously happy to have another female dragon there.

By the time, Deltiaoth had announced herself and found a spot in the weyrbowl to land. The wWyrwoman herself was coming out to greet her along with her gold Eoth. Deltiaoth looked at Weyrwoman Teah but spoke through Eoth. She introduced herself and told them how she had hatched at Calyeni Caverns and lived at Dragonwillow and how fate had brought her here to Darkling Dawn where if she would be permitted she would like to stand as a candidate.

Eoth looked her up and down for a moment then nodded to Teah and Deltiaoth. There is no reason why she shouldn't stand the gold queen told her rider After all its the hatchlings themselves who ultimately make the decisions of who they bond to.

Teah nodded in agreement with Eoth and smiled at Deltiaoth "Green Diath and Green Miasth currently have clutches on the sands. Teah told Deltiaoth then continued formally "Do you wish to accept being searched and stand before these clutches on the sands"

Yes I do Deltiaoth was nodding her large cream head vigorously as her heart seemed to jump for joy. She was being allowed to stand! Thank you she told them her eyes swirling madly in a mixture of light blue and purple I know this is the right decision. You won't be sorry she told them.

"I'm sure we won't be" Teah grinned at the overjoyed young cream. Now come along let's get you settled with the other candidates just like that Deltiaoth was Darkling Dawn's newest candidate.

Darkling Dawn

As the weeks rolled by and the hatching grew closer, Deltiaoth started to get more and more nervous. being a somewhat solitary soul by nature and unable to speak meant that while all the candidates, riders and Darkling Dawn residents were as welcoming and nice as could be, and while candidate life kept her busy,  Deltiaoth still found herself spending a lot of time alone. She found that too many people at once exhausted her and during free time she would duck away to her favourite spot and to think and clear her head.

This unfortunately gave her much time to think which can sometimes be dangerous and what often came up was: What if she had in fact made the wrong decision and none of the hatchlings wanted to bond with her. Maybe she was destined to be alone and unbonded after all.
